How to Read a Memory-Supplement Label

A step-by-step way to inspect serving size, ingredient amounts, proprietary blends and other details before comparing cognitive supplements.

Start with serving size

An ingredient amount is meaningful only in context of the serving. A label may show amounts per three capsules even if the front of the bottle emphasizes a smaller capsule count. Calculate what you would actually take each day.

Look for disclosed amounts

Individual ingredient quantities make evidence comparison easier. Proprietary blends can legally list a total blend amount without showing each component's dose, which limits your ability to compare the product with research.

Check ingredient form and standardization

Botanical extracts can differ in concentration and composition. A study on one standardized extract may not apply to a differently prepared ingredient. Look for extract ratios or standardized constituents when relevant.

Cross-check the rest of your routine

Compare the label with your other supplements and fortified products to avoid unintended duplication. For medication interactions or condition-specific concerns, bring the full label to a pharmacist or clinician.
