The practical answer

Everyone forgets things occasionally. Concern rises when change is persistent, progressive, unusual for the person or interferes with everyday functioning.

What can influence the picture

Examples include getting lost in familiar places, repeated difficulty managing bills or medicines, major personality changes, or rapidly worsening confusion.

When to widen the lens

Sudden confusion can be an emergency. New neurologic symptoms, injury, severe headache or acute illness require prompt medical attention rather than supplement research.

Where supplements fit

Supplements are only one possible part of the picture. They should not replace evaluation of symptoms, sleep, medications, nutrition, physical activity or diagnosed conditions. When symptoms are new or consequential, identifying the cause is more important than choosing a cognitive-support product.
